Declan: 3 months
Life happens. When you're busy, rushing around from one task to the next, crossing off one thing just to add three more, watching those close to you have major life altering events, life happens. The choice then becomes yours: become overwhelmed by everything happening in your life and in the lives of those around you, or allow yourself to trust in God to help you with that balancing act.
I've had to consciously make the decision on a daily basis to enjoy the little moments and start paying attention to "life," instead of always rushing. After quitting my steady paycheck, awesome career, engineering job a couple weeks ago to be home with our two wonderful children (even though I'm basically still running two businesses), I kind of started freaking out. I'm so accustomed to having every minute filled with busyness, that adjusting to a slower-paced days has been a challenge.
So, to try to make myself slow down today, I want to recap Declan's first three months of life (during nap time, of course - p.s. - they're both napping AT THE SAME TIME. I'M AMAZING).
He's been such a blessing to our family. His little smiles and coos bring happy tears to my eyes just thinking about them. Harlee is completely obsessed with him, and just wants to smush him with hugs and kisses at every opportunity. I know that he'll be running around with her as soon as he can - he sure seems to try to chase her already!
All Declan wants to do is stand, stand, stand. Tummy time for him is short and sweet, unfortunately... but he will allow me to hold him in his standing position for as long as I'll let him (or my arms get tired). Surprisingly, he seems to have the strength to hold himself in a standing position, and it seems like I'm just there to hold him steady.
He has figured out how to hold onto my hair, and loves his "mommy" time. He slept in his crib for the first time two nights ago - I was so sad - but he did amazing! Most nights, he'll give us about 7 hours straight (hallelujah) and then wake up for an early morning snack before passing back out again.
He hasn't rolled over yet, but he's managed to get onto his side. He loves sucking his thumb, milk, and staring at fans.
Can't wait to see where life brings us, baby Declan! We love you so much!
